I do not know if you've heard the morally loaded question: What if everybody behave like you? What would the world become then, putting the responsibility for some unwanted behavior heavily on your shoulders. The thing is that that will never happen. We will always make choices and do things differently.
If you choose to pollute less, the answer to our morally loaded question What if everybody did like you? would be: We save the planet from total disintegration (or something like that).
The fact that people do not do like everybody else is part of the problem we are facing when we want to make collective changes, like polluting less. Even if I agree we as population of the Earth need to behave coherently and collectively take on the responsibility to reduce pollution, I still believe individual and differing behaviors is not only acceptable but highly desired.
Personally, I do not mind that others make different choices than I do. If you think we should pollute less, then pollute less regardless of what others do.
It will alway be a balance of the individual and system behavior and decisions that determine the total result.
