Many contemporary toiletries and cosmetics claim to be green. But before you accept their claims do check out the ingredient list for harmful chemicals such as parabens, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or SLS, SLES (detergents) and DEA, TEA and MEA. Also make sure they contain no petrochemicals.
I make it a rule of thumb not to buy if I don’t know what the ingredients are. The face cream I use is pure enough to eat.
Using `toxic’ chemicals can make you come up in ugly skin rashes, and cause you long term health risks, as well as harm our environment.
Synthetic colors and perfumes are also used to make products more commercially viable, but good color and perfume are intrinsic qualities of real ingredients.
Whether a product has been tested on animals is also something to consider.
Unnecessary packing is an environmental no. I prefer products in simple glass jars or bottles, my second choice hard plastics, but never soft plastics. Soft plastics can leech into the product over time and make it into an unknown chemical concoction.
All in all a lot to think about when you chose your makeup but it is worth it for yourself and our world.
